The objective of the Saskatchewan Wildlife Art Association Inc. is to promote the education, development, and public appreciation of wildlife art.
The Saskatchewan Wildlife Art Association Inc. was formed in 1986 by local artists seeking to increase the exposure and acceptance of wildlife art. Since that time, our membership has grown to inciude artists from across the province and beyond, with each year bringing promising new artists to the public's attention. The member-artists of the Association have a wide variety of interests from painting, drawing and photography, to bird carving, sculpture and relief.
Membership entitles the artist to participate in all shows and events, receive members- only discounts, and partake in Association business; Family memberships offer a special discount for two of more members in the same household.
Each of our monthly meetings includes talks and demonstrations by our members and others, and gives us an opportunity to share ideas, and find out about new and different methods used by fellow artists. Most of us are amateurs, and as such, look forward to new information and techniques to use in our own style of work. Any wildlife artist from beginner to professional is encouraged to sit in on our meetings.
The Association's newsletter - "Scrawl of the Wild" - is distributed to each of the members to keep them abreast of upcoming events and activities. It allows us to promote Association workshops, seminars and exhibits, as well as publicize meetings and other happenings. In addition, we try to include announcements and information of interest to all wildlife artists, and encourage members to keep us informed about news in their area.
The Saskatchewan Wildlife Art Association Inc. currently puts on several exhibits of wildlife art each year. These shows give members an opportunity to display their work to the general public, as well as increasing awareness of wildlife art in the province. Our crowning event is the "REFLECTIONS OF NATURE" Art Competition and Exposition, held annually in October. This competition is open to all wildlife artists, and includes competitors from across Canada and the United States. Individual exhibitors also display a variety of paintings, carvings and other artwork, plus a selection of supplies and equipment for the wildlife artist.
